MANUFACTURING

Manufacturing careers provide a wide range of job opportunities including the processing of materials into products, planning, managing, and providing technical support such as maintenance and manufacturing/process engineering. Strong employability skills often referred to as "soft skills" along with increasing requirements for solid math, science and technical skills are important in pursuing a career in manufacturing. Related careers include health, safety and environmental assurance, logistics and inventory control, and quality assurance.

The manufacturing industry involves many career pathways that also involve business operations, marketing, printing, and the development and application of technology related to product and process design.

Career and Technical Education programs in the VALEES region include preparation in:

  • mechanics (automotive technology and small engines)
  • welding
  • CAD (drafting, computer aided design, rapid prototyping)
  • graphics (design, web, and printing)
  • fire science / EMT
  • health occupations
  • food services
  • business management, accounting, and marketing
  • information technology
  • agriculture (ag. mechanics, agribusiness, and environmental systems)

Employment in manufacturing has been greatly impacted by the global economy. Replacement of manufacturing workers accounts for job opportunities along with a growing need for workers with technical skills.

ARTICULATED CREDIT
College credit may be earned at Waubonsee Community College if you successfully complete VALEES courses and meet applicable requirements.

APPLICABLE DEGREES AND CERTIFICATES
Credit earned for completion of VALEES courses may be used as part of the requirements for certificate and degree programs at Waubonsee Community College.

High school students can earn community college credit or advanced placement for high school classes in approved CTE programs where the curriculum aligns with the community college's curriculum and an applicable articulation agreement exists. VALEES articulation agreements exist with Waubonsee Community College, Joliet Junior College, and Kishwaukee College.
