ACCOUNTING

Accounting is part the Business, Marketing and Computer Education career cluster. Accounting is the study of how businesses track their income and assets. Accounting jobs offer stimulating and challenging work that is constantly responding to changing business conditions. Accountants engage in a variety of activities such as preparing financial statements, recording business transactions, computing costs, and developing and using information systems to track financial performance.

Employment for accountants is expected to increase. Opportunities will be best for those who have a master's degree, obtain certification or licensure, or who are proficient in the use of accounting and auditing computer software. Accountants and auditors earn median annual salaries of $54,600.

Other employment opportunities related to accounting include bookkeepers, accounting clerks, and general office workers.

Credit earned for completion of VALEES courses may be used as part of the requirements for certificate and degree programs at Waubonsee Community College.
