Intended Audience:  High School and College Educators Teaching Career and Technical Education and Employability Skills, High School and College Teachers Integrating CTE in the Curriculum, High School and College Counselors, Administrators, and Business/Industry Partners

Description:  This all-day professional growth opportunity will allow educators and business partners to enhance their knowledge of how partnerships with students, parents, academic instructors, and business/industry representatives can provide enhanced curricular opportunities for students to become career and college ready.

This is a FREE professional development opportunity for all participants.

Five CPDU credits are available for participants who attend this workshop from

THE JOURNEY: OSWEGO HIGH SCHOOL SHOW CHOIR PERFORMANCE

The OHS COMMOTION show choir will take us on a journey back to the 1980's through their "80's rock show" featuring songs by Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, and others. With 32 singers and dancers, and a backup band of ten musicians, you will be entertained and energized with the debut of their 2012 show. OHS COMMOTION will be competing in regional show choir events and traveling to Disney and Universal Studios in Orlando. Frank Tieri is Director of the OHS COMMOTION.

Diigo is a free web-based tool that allows you to bookmark web pages, highlight, take notes, hold a discussion and much more! Learn how to research, share, and collaborate using this powerful tool. We will discuss the use of social media tools in the classroom and explore practical strategies for use both inside and outside the classroom. Focus Optical Business Field Trip (S1.2) This session is closed.
This session runs through Session 1 and Session 2, 9:15 a.m.-11:15 a.m.
Visit Focus Optical Lab in Aurora. Focus Optical is a highly regarded national company manufacturing lenses for eye glasses. Gain an inside look at this high-tech, precision manufacturing lab that provides a wide-range of employment opportunities. Close-toed shoes are required when visiting any manufacturing environment. Transportation will be provided.

Engineering For Students: Get Hands-On With Nanotechnology (S1.3)
This session runs through Session 1 and Session 2, 9:15 a.m.-11:15 a.m.

Get hands-on as we explore activities that you can do with your students. You will make nanoparticles of gold and see that they exhibit different properties than the gold we are familiar with. You will be introduced to interesting new products that incorporate nanotechnology. You will see a metal that remembers its shape even after you deform it. Learn about free resources and supplies to do these activities and others that you can access to engage students in engineering, leading them to successful employment in this exciting field.

Curriculum Revitalization Project Online Assignments Through MyCAERT (S1.4)
This session runs through Session 1 and Session 2, 9:15 a.m.-11:15 a.m.
Experience this fast-paced, hands-on session focusing on Curriculum Revitalization Project resources. Emphasis will be on using the online assignment features of MyCAERT. Yes, indeed! You also CAN assign your teacher created Common Core Tasks through this method as well!

Learning to Use the Common Core Standards To Teach In The Content Area (S1.5)
This session runs through Session 1 and Session 2, 9:15 a.m.-11:15 a.m.

Attendees will be introduced to a model of aligning the Common Core Standards to classroom curriculum. The model may be used for both academic and CTE educators, P-20. The session will evolve as follows: Attendees will receive a brief introduction to the CC Standards and will learn to identify the English/Language Arts and Math Standards. Attendees will view TASKS from both ENG/LA and Math, and will learn how to create a TASK using a standards-based mapping process

Students And Staff Explore Their Career Pathways Through Digital Storytelling (S2.8) - Help your students discover who they are, their career interests and personal pathways through compelling and emotionally engaging digital stories. See how staff members are beginning to use the same process to introduce themselves to students and parents. Learn how to move students beyond a paper ICP to creating "their story" via a personal reflection communicated through digital media. Panel of Presenters from Newark Community High School.

Building A Career Curriculum For Your Classroom (S2.9) - Teachers and counselors can help students make the connections between academics, workplace skills and social emotional development by incorporating career development in the curriculum. Explore strategies to help students see relevance in their learning and prepare for post-secondary life. This session will focus on the art and science of creating opportunities for conversations and tips to build consensus with effective communication skills. Take a new look at an old problem - the perception of the "right" career in today's changing economic environment. Pathways To Prosperity: The Impact On Career Development (S3.6) What should be our vision of career development in our schools? Discuss this newly released study by the Harvard Graduate School of Education with a panel of VALEES representatives as they explore the potential impact on career development, CTE, common core standards, and college and career readiness as we help students consider their career pathways. Power, Passion and Possibility (S4.7) This session is closed.- Diane has led breakout sessions the last two years on Willard Daggett's Rigor-Relevance-Relationship model starting with a "Revolution” and an urgency to embrace 21st century skills learning for ALL students. This year she creatively helps teachers, counselors, and administrators to look at their roles in helping students answer three very vital questions: Who Am I? Where Am I Going? How Do I Get There?
